LeBron James reached a major NBA milestone Tuesday, scoring
his 30,000th point and joining an exclusive club. The first to salute James for
his feat? Why, the King himself — hours earlier.
Say one thing for James: He clearly doesn’t believe in
jinxes. On Tuesday morning, he took to Instagram to post a photo of his younger
self, along with a caption that began, “Wanna be one of the first to
Congratulate you on this accomplishment/achievement tonight that you’ll reach!”
“Only a handful has reach/seen it too and while I know it’s
never been a goal of yours from the beginning try (please try) to take a moment
for yourself on how you’ve done it!” James said to himself, adding, “There’s so
many people to thank who has help this even become possible (so thank them all)
and when u finally get your moment (alone) to yourself smile, look up to the higher
skies and say THANK YOU!”
If James set himself up for some sort of karmic retribution,
it will have to wait, because sure enough, he got the seven points he needed to
reach the plateau in a game that evening against the Spurs. The history-making
moment occurred just before the first quarter ended, which provided a
convenient pause in the contest, played in San Antonio, for James to be
recognized for his accomplishment/achievement.
