TWIT DEVOTIONAL with Dr Patrick Oyinkari

Bible through the year:
Psalm 116:1-19
Proverbs 27:23-27
Ezekiel 35:1-36:38
James 1:1-18

Scripture for meditation:

Ephesians 1:17: “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him”.
Topic for discussion:
Jesus Christ and His God
While our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ walked the earth, He repeatedly pointed all men to God as His Father. He made efforts to reveal His God to men but they would rather stick to their preconceived ideas, their customs and traditions by which they determined who God is and how He should be.
When Jesus resurrected from the dead He declared to Mary Magdalene that He was yet to ascend to His Father: “my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God” (John 20:17). On the cross, at the point of death, He called unto God: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34). As always, He spoke back scriptures to God, and this time He was quoting Psalm 22:1.
It has been known all the while to Israel that there is only but one God. “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:” (Deuteronomy 6:4; quoted by Jesus in Mark 12:29. Why then has it been difficult for men to accept God for who He is and Jesus Christ for who He also is?
When it is understood that the Father is God above the Son, Jesus Christ, even as the Son acknowledged and declared, the scriptures become harmonious and all controversies fizzle. In John 14:28 Jesus said “…my Father is greater than I”; and in verse 31 He said the world should know that He loved the Father; “and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do…” Do you accept the God of Jesus Christ? He it is that Christ came to reconcile you with (2 Corinthians 5:19)

Meditation/Prayer: Think on these words and consider what will befall those who reject the Father, and also deride Him in the guise of honouring His Son. How pleased will His Son be for that? Pray for wisdom/grace to accept God for who He is before eternity.
