TWO EXPERIENCES/MINISTRIES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN A BELIEVER - JOHN 4:13-15, JOHN 7:37-39

The baptism of the Holy Ghost and the New Birth are two separate experiences. Deducing from the two scriptures above, Jesus used two pictures to explain the two different experiences of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life.

The “WELL” stands for the salvation experience and the joy that comes from knowing that your sins are erased and forgiven (Isaiah 12:3, Psalm 51:12). The Holy Spirit is responsible for the New Birth (Titus 3:5-6). This is the first experience of the Holy Ghost in a believer's life.
The “RIVERS” stand for the fullness of the Holy Spirit that occurs when you are baptized with or in the Spirit. These two experiences are quite separate and distinct from one another. You can, however, be baptized with the Holy Ghost the same day you get born again. The New Birth like a well, is to bless you personally. That is the MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO THE BELIEVERS in the new birth! The baptism of the Holy Ghost, like the rivers, makes you a blessing to others. That IS THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH THE BELIEVER.

If there is a well in your house, you can say this is my well and stop people from drawing. But it is absurd for you to say a river flowing across your land is your river, and seek to stop people from drawing from it. The first experience of the Holy Spirit in a believer is in the New Birth when He comes in a measure! The second experience is in the Baptism when He comes in full measure.

PRAYER:

Lord, help me to maximize these two ministries of the Holy Spirit, I will not fail the people I am supposed to be a blessing to in Jesus’ name. Amen.
